On a spooky but charming episode of After Hours AM/America’s Most Haunted Radio — Thursdays 9-11pE with hosts Joel Sturgis and Eric Olsen — we talk with Texas paranormal investigator, writer, and media personality Becky Vickers about the ghost hunting life. We speak with Becky at 10pE; at 9pE Joel and Eric plunge into the chilly waters of the week’s most edifying paranormal news.
Becky Vickers is founder of Lake Cities Paranormal Society, and BECKS (Behind Every Cloud is a Kindred Spirit) Ghost Hunters, radio host of Bridging the Paranormal on KCORRADIO.com, author, tour guide, speaker, blogger, and enthusiastic paranormal investigator. With over 35 years of experience, she brings her lighthearted and fun style of investigating and Southern charm to the world’s most haunted locations, including Alcatraz, the Stanley Hotel, the Winchester Mansion, the Mineral Springs Hotel, Rose Hall in Jamaica, and her beloved Goatman’s Bridge in Denton, Texas. Becky’s love for the paranormal makes her eager to help others and continues to push the boundaries for proof of the afterlife.
The Texan lost her grandfather when she was 17 and had a very difficult time getting over it. She loved him so much she didn’t think she could live without him and needed to know she could still communicate with him. She read everything she could get her hands on that had to do with the “afterlife” and that started her love of ghost hunting and the paranormal. It is her way of staying in touch with her grandfather.
“Being a ghost hunter is not always as exciting as it seems on TV,” Becky says. “Many nights I have sat in the dark and not a thing happened. BUT it is those times you DO get that one voice, that one unexplainable picture, or have an experience that sends chills down your back that makes it sooo worth it all! I LOVE this crazy thing called ghost hunting. It is as much a part of me as breathing. I am just a girl who refuses to accept we can’t still contact our loved ones after they die. My grandfather won’t let me.”
Becky has been featured on My Ghost Stories and the Halloween Special “Route 666” on Ghost Adventures. She also writes a weekly blog Becksghosthunters.com on her experiences and all things paranormal. When she is not investigating or blogging she is speaking at conferences, teaching Ghost Hunting 101, making appearances, and giving tours at the very haunted Old Alton Bridge — better known as Goatman’s Bridge. She is currently working on a weekly paranormal series of local haunts in North Texas with a local television station; and look for her forthcoming book, Goatman’s Bridge, about the history, murder, and paranormal activity at this amazing location.
