Dan and Tim will be joining us in the 10pE hour – in the 9pE hour Joel and Eric will reveal the week’s mind-melting paranormal news and banter pleasingly.

Hinsdale House History

The Dandy family moved into the century-old farm house in Hinsdale, New York, in the early 1970s, thinking they had finally found their dream home. Within days they began to experience unexplained activity that continued to grow worse as time went on. The family received mysterious phone calls and experienced a variety of poltergeist activity. Sometimes they would even hear chanting from the nearby woods.

At first shrugging the activity off, the Dandy family then began seeing full-body apparitions of woman in white, bizarre animal-human hybrids, even what they believed could be demonic, non-human entities.

One night the family noticed a group of strange faces staring in their windows. However, when Mr. Dandy ran outside to chase away the trespassers, the faces reversed and were then peering back at him from the inside of the house.

Then the haunting began to turn violent: objects levitated around the house, a lamp from the living room threw itself at one of the Dandy daughters. The last straw came when Mr. Dandy experienced a state of amnesia, unable to remember some of the most frightening incidents. At this point an exorcist named Father Alphonsus, a priest from St. Bonaventure University, was called in to exorcise the home while the family and a team paranormal researchers were present. The paranormal activity became the strongest it had ever been. Lights in the house turned on and off, unexplainable banging emanated from the walls, and a palpable sense of evil permeated the home.

Unfortunately, the exorcism didn’t work, and after a few days of calm in the house, the activity ramped up again, finally forcing the Dandy family to move. Clara Miller-Dandy wrote the book Echoes of a Haunting in 2000, which detailed her family’s terrifying experiences living in the home from July, 1973 to October, 1974.

Today the house is owned, maintained, and operated by local paranormal investigator Dan Klaes in order to preserve the haunted building for research purposes. The Hinsdale House was brought to the public’s attention in the fifth episode of Paranormal Lockdown, which saw Nick Groff and Katrina Weidman spend 72 hours living in and investigating the notorious location. During their investigation, the seasoned investigators experienced a range of activity associated with the house, including chanting, banging, and an overwhelming sense of confusion.

Daniel Klaes

Daniel Klaes’ interest in the paranormal spans his entire life, stemming from his experiences living in a haunted house. These encounters with unusual phenomena pushed theDan Klaes Hinsdale House boundaries of his own belief system. In fact, Dan later purchased his family’s home and has grown comfortable with his unseen guests. Klaes co-founded the Greater Western New York Paranormal Society, which has tackled some of the most challenging paranormal cases in the region. Dan is also a producer of the Behind the Shadows documentary series that can be viewed internationally on the Roku station Paranormal Reality TV. He is also a radio host of Phenomena Encountered on the Crossroads Radio Network, a sought after speaker, and author, having penned Hinsdale House, An American Haunting.

In June of 2015, Dan realized a lifelong dream. The infamous Hinsdale House, site of the infestation and structural exorcism, became available for purchase and wasting no time, he made an offer that was accepted. Klaes immediately began renovations to stabilize the house, which continue to this day. Shortly afterwards he opened the location for paranormal research and has hosted local, national and international paranormal teams. Recently Dan was contacted by producers from Destination America and contracted the house to be featured on the hit TV series Paranormal Lockdown featuring Nick Groff and Katrina Wiedman. The episode was the highest viewed episode of the series. Such was the phenomena that after Nick left both EVP and Geobox evidence called for his return to the house.
