Traveling with the Ghosts and Elves in Iceland “It’s not that we believe in ghosts; it’s that we know they’re there.”

“It’s not that we believe in ghosts; it’s that we know they’re there.” So said our Iceland guide Hlíf after we visited Höfði, the site of the Reykjavík summit between Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev that marked the beginning of the end of the Cold War, and which is said to be haunted by The White Lady. Hlíf repeated the phrase when she discussed Icelanders’ belief in elves, a topic she broached with a tone of “Here we go…”

H.H. Holmes – Maniacally Efficient Master of Murder THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY plagued Chicago at the turn of the 20th century

Holmes’ ultimate claim to fame was the lodging house he designed and built in time for the 1893 Columbian Exhibition in Chicago. While the name on the marquee said, “The World’s Fair Hotel,” it became known simply as, “the Castle.” Inside were airless vaults, sound-proofed rooms, greased chutes down to acid vats, a crematorium, and a dissecting table with surgical tools – just to name a few. After Holmes’ capture, an early edition of the Guinness Book of World Records stated that he was the “most prolific murderer in recent criminal history.” His confirmed body count has since been surpassed (nine), but the untold numbers (100?) indicate that he could very easily still hold that record. Some have called him “America’s First Serial Killer.”

DRACULA UNTOLD Presents Most Interesting Version of The Count Since VAN HELSING Luke Evans portrays monster-as-hero

The most interesting Draculas of the 2000s are Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ principled, love-sick, brilliant inventor/entrepreneur in the short-lived NBC TV series; Richard Roxburgh’s rattled, sardonic, paternal, philosophical, yet ultimately villainous portrayal in the vastly underrated Van Helsing; and Luke Evans’ family man and conscientious prince who must sacrifice his own humanity to protect his people from the rapacious Ottomans in the 15th century of Dracula Untold.

MTV’s SCREAM: THE TV SERIES Season 1 on DVD Could MTV revive the legend?

How was MTV going to capture that lightning in a bottle again in Scream: The TV Series — especially so far after its expiration date? Not even Scream 4 could relaunch the series the way the Weinsteins (Harvey and Bob) hoped back in 2011. Imagine my surprise when MTV posted the opening scene where young high schooler Nina (Bella Thorne) is our first victim in an amazing update of the Drew Barrymore opening. From there, the mystery gets deeper as the teens and citizens of Lakewood fall into a mystery involving cyberbullying and the possible return of the infamous deformed killer thought dead for years.
